CON06.02 - Athletics as the Catalyst for Data Science Learning

Athletics provides a unique channel to encourage student curiosity towards STEM based streams of learning. This workshop will provide an interactive introduction to various forms of sports related data and how it can be utilized to learn various complex statistics and computer science related concepts.


The learning objectives of this workshop can be defined as the following:




  • Ability to recognize and manipulate sports related data


  • Provoke thoughtful conversation on how to utilize the aforementioned data


  • Map those ideas to mathematical and computer science related concepts


  • Learn techniques to evaluate the ideas by applying topic knowledge critique


  • Communicate the conclusion effectively to a receptive but non-technical audience (coaches / athletes)
