PK07.12a - Constructive Interaction in Online Learning Environments

Constructive Interaction is a model for instruction which states that learning occurs in four moments or stages: Individual moment, small group moment, large group moment and evaluation and planning moment. These stages require the application of diverse skills, with particular emphasis on student-student communication, empowerment of learners and development of research skills. In online environments, a method such as Constructive Interaction can improve the learning experience because it includes the elements of peer-feedback, a sense of "social presence", and a collaborative pedagogy. The purpose of this presentation is to showcase the processes, methods, tools, challenges and outcomes of Constructive Interaction in online learning environments, emphasizing on the change in students’ role from passive receptors to active seekers and knowledge builders.
